This common bar instrument is bar instrument is
used to shake drink with ice before serving.
Its purpose is to combine all the ingredients
while very quickly chilling the drink.
A drink is strained from an ice filled shaker into
a glass of ice so that the small ice chips created
from vigorous shaking won't water down the
drink.

Blenders are used for making frozen cocktails
that usually include a cup of ice or ice cream.
A good bar blender (me) has a splatter
control
feature, ice crushing ability, a glass jar that holds
at least 40 oz, and a good warranty
